U.S. Treasury Reports Uninsured Population May Be Larger than Believed

09-14-2009

A September report from the U.S. Treasury Department uncovers new information regarding the status of insured Americans.  Although the most recent estimates indicate that approximately 15% of Americans are uninsured, the Treasury study found that over a ten-year period nearly half of all Americans were uninsured for some period of time.  More than 40% of Americans were uninsured for at least six months during any given ten-year span.

These results may have an impact on the current Congressional healthcare bill debate.

More information is available from the U.S. Treasury Department.
