Supply of Emergency Departments Decreases as Demand for Care Increases

A recent article in USA TODAY references a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association which found that approximately one-in-three hospital emergency departments closed in the past two decades.  This is especially troublesome as demand for care has increased but the number of emergency departments has decreased.  The study also investigates factors leading to the closures.
