Kaiser Reports Primary Care Shortage
08-21-2009
On August 21, Kaiser announced the availability of a new issue brief pertaining to the shortage of primary care in the U.S. For this study, primary care is defined as, “a first contact for any new health issue or need; long-term, person-focused care; comprehensive care for most health needs, and coordination of care when it must be received elsewhere (i.e. with a specialist).” As fewer medical professionals choose to focus on primary care, the U.S. may experience a severe shortage of providers in the coming years. This is a particular concern within the area of long-term care, as the “Baby Boom” generation ages.
