First Round of H1N1 Vaccines Now Available
10-05-2009
Following the Food and Drug Administration’s September approval of four drug companies to manufacture the H1N1 vaccine, the first batches of the vaccine have been shipped to state health departments and medical facilities across all fifty states. This first round of flu vaccines are in nasal spray format, which is recommended for those ages 2-50 who do not have any chronic health conditions. The injection version of the vaccine is expected to be available later this month.
Healthcare workers are among those who are being encouraged to receive the vaccine first, both so that they are protected when caring for patients with H1N1 and so that they help reduce the possible spread of the disease to their vulnerable patients. In addition, the vaccine is being strongly recommended for pregnant women.
