2009 State Health Rankings Released

11-20-2009

The United Health Foundation released its 20th anniversary edition of America’s Health Rankings this week.  The latest edition tracks health over the past two decades using twenty-two health indicators such as incidence of diseases, including cancer and heart disease, as well as obesity, infant mortality rates, and prevalence of tobacco use.  This year Vermont topped the list as the healthiest state, while Mississippi ranked last for the ninth consecutive year.  In general, the Northeastern states were the healthiest in the nation; all six New England states were ranked in the top ten.  The Southern states received the lowest scores, with eight of the bottom ten being located in the South.
